The McLaren Vale wine region is being celebrated on the global stage with the release of two dedicated episodes of the internationally renowned Wine Blast podcast, hosted by leading UK wine authorities Susie Barrie MW and Peter Richards MW.

One of the world’s most respected wine podcasts, Wine Blast reaches a global audience of sommeliers, collectors, buyers and enthusiasts across the UK, Europe, North America and Asia. Hosted by two Masters of Wine with extensive international media profiles, Wine Blast is recognised for spotlighting benchmark regions alongside the great names of Bordeaux, Burgundy, Barolo and Napa Valley.

Peter Richards MW’s decision to visit McLaren Vale in October 2025 and dedicate two in-depth episodes to the region is a powerful endorsement of the McLaren Vale’s standing among the world’s most premium wine regions.

Through conversations with local producers and exploration of the region’s vineyards, the episodes highlight how thoughtful farming, old-vine heritage and a move toward lighter-touch winemaking have revealed a new, more elegant McLaren Vale style. As acclaimed winemaker Stephen Pannell puts it, “now we’re making wines in McLaren Vale that taste like they are from McLaren Vale and can’t have come from anywhere else in the world.”

McLaren Vale: Boxer to Ballerinaexamines the stylistic transformation of McLaren Vale wines – including its long-time hero variety Shiraz - tracing the journey from bold, powerful expressions to more poised, medium-bodied wines defined by balance, brightness and coastal freshness. The episode highlights how maritime influence, old vines and thoughtful winemaking are positioning McLaren Vale as a leader in reshaping global perceptions of Australian wine.

McLaren Vale: The Grenaissanceexplores how McLaren Vale has emerged as one of the world’s most exciting regions for Grenache, leading the Australian revival of a variety once overshadowed by more powerful styles. The episode delves into how a combination of ancient bush vines, sandy soils and a coastal Mediterranean climate has allowed McLaren Vale to unlock Grenache’s true potential — producing perfumed, finessed wines that show a distinctive sense of place.

Across both episodes, McLaren Vale is framed not simply as an Australian success story, but as a region operating confidently among the world’s great fine wine regions. As Wirra Wirra CEO Matthew Deller MW describes, McLaren Vale Grenache is “a great wine of the world, and I am very particular about using that term. I love great Barolo. I love great Burgundy. I love great McLaren Vale Grenache. I see them as part of the same landscape”.

Susie Barrie MW notes the region’s “extraordinary energy and sense of place” while Peter Richards MW highlights the “clarity, freshness and precision” now defining modern McLaren Vale wines. For South Australia, this international recognition is something to celebrate. To see McLaren Vale discussed in the same breath as the world’s most revered wine regions reinforces the state’s place as Australia’s Great Wine Capital and its growing influence in premium markets.

Beyond the wines themselves, the episodes capture the spirit of the region — its strong community ties, relaxed coastal lifestyle, innovative producers, and deep respect for land and heritage.

Australians are encouraged to listen, share and — most importantly — experience McLaren Vale for themselves. From its celebrated cellar doors and long lunches overlooking vineyards and sea, to its vibrant community of growers and winemakers, McLaren Vale offers visitors the opportunity to discover firsthand the place behind the praise.

In the month of release, the McLaren Vale episodes had achieved over 20,000 unique downloads, with thousands of additional plays across major streaming platforms and an exceptionally strong engagement rate of 60–70%, demonstrating genuine global interest in the region’s unique story.

The two McLaren Vale Wine Blast episodes are available via all major podcast platforms, including Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
